| Taken off the Shiretoko Peninsula in Hokkaido at the coldest time of the winter. Heading out before sunrise, we reached the drift ice just as day began to break. After we’d thrown down some food, Steller’s sea-eagles and white-tailed eagles, both impressively large raptors, seemed to appear out of nowhere, gathering on the drift ice to enjoy the unexpected feast. - off the Shiretoko peninsula, Hokkaido |
