"I want to share my artistic vision with a wide range of people." I do feel a special affection for Olympus cameras, because the first camera I actually owned was an Olympus AF-1 Twin that my grandfather bought me when I was still in elementary school. Maybe it's because I'm not a person who is particularly attached to things, but people tell me that rather than being heavily documentary, my photos are more like casually taken snapshots. That's fine with me because it's basically my character. I think the important thing is how to expand and further develop this approach. Until now, I've taken intuitive shots of scenes and things that have caught my eye. As a future challenge, or indeed direction, I'd like to focus on areas that my eyes don't notice. In this respect, my husband sees everything in a completely different way to me, and has something I don't have. It's really reassuring to have a photographer like him nearby. Now that I'm a mother, I often take photos while moving around with my child. As a result, some of the shots inevitably come out with a feeling of movement. I believe that if I can continue enjoying myself and having even more fun taking photos, I'll be able to create something quite different from my previous works. These days, I mainly take photos of subjects I find around me, but I'd like to try photographing things way beyond my personal boundaries. For example, I'm very interested in the equestrian peoples of Hungary who still live a traditional life. I'd also love to take photos of subjects like the adobe buildings in Santa Fe, people living in the desert, and other subjects like that.
Going to unknown places and taking photos from my own point of view, I feel a strong desire to show them and share them with others. I think this reflects my somewhat introspective personality, and I believe photography offers the best way for me to express myself - it's an indispensable tool that links my inner and outer worlds. Editor's Note Yoko Ono says she isn't particularly attached to things, and although she may seem to keep her distance, she has a strong desire to express herself. Going well beyond her background in Japanese painting, her sense of composition and feeling for perspective are, I believe, truly instinctive. And although she refers to herself as an "introspective personality," it takes a very talented artist indeed to visit a remote land, befriend the people, and come back from a four-day, six-gigabyte shoot with enough good material to hold a solo photo exhibition.
