| If both flowers in this shot were in focus, the yellow flower would distract the viewer's eye from the primary subject, which is the pink cowslip. So I opened the aperture to reduce the depth of field and focused directly on the cowslip. This threw the yellow flower slightly out of focus, thereby reducing its presence in the shot. |
