Harvesting mekabu seaweed
OLYMPUS E-1 ZUIKO DIGITAL 14-54mm, F8.0 1/160 sec. ISO 400 5300K
The Sanriku Sea is known for its fishing industry and the abalone, scallops, wakame seaweed and other marine resources that are cultivated there using fixed nets and other methods. Setting off in a boat at the break of dawn to capture the early spring harvest of mekabu, the flowering sprout of the wakame plant, I took this shot from a sappabune (small flat-bottomed boat) tossed by the waves of the open sea.
