"I must feel comfortable using a camera. The E-System is the closest to my ideal, and I love it."
It's not a matter of strict policy, but I generally try not to take things at face value. So when new products and information come out, I always make a point of personally verifying things, thoroughly examining cameras so that I can make the best choice. It was the same when I first encountered Olympus. The first thing I asked was whether Olympus was really that good. What were the images like? How about the software for processing RAW data? I asked myself questions covering everything from hardware performance to software possibilities. I also took into account the maneuverability of the camera. After examining every possible aspect, I decided that Olympus cameras were the best choice. And it's great to have a dust reduction system, eliminating the need for troublesome dust removal.
Performance is critical, of course, but I feel it's even more important to feel comfortable with the camera you use. When shooting, you want to be able to concentrate completely on the subject without paying attention to the camera. In this respect, the E-System is the closest to my ideal, and I love it.
The photograph titled, "Little Friend," was taken with an E-300. Actually, it's a special shot for me because it led me to work with more Olympus cameras afterwards. In fact, my first solo exhibition of photos taken with an E-System camera, titled "Dark Beauty Project," was also my first collection of digital works. This particular photograph, entitled "Dark Beauty," is a composite graphic image created from a single subject.
I think that "Dark Beauty" stands as a concrete example of how invaluable digital cameras can be in helping us realize the ideal images we have in our minds.
