Olympus has been in a cooperative relationship with WWF Japan since 1983. More than 20 years has passed since Olympus started supporting WWF Japan with the Olympus Calendar (Japanese edition). The Calendar is sold by WWF Japan for 1,470 yen (including tax), and all profits are used to support conservation works of WWF Japan, which includes projects to prevent global warming.
The latest Olympus/WWF Calendar can be purchased in Japan at the Panda Shop, an on-line store operated by WWF Japan while supplies last. (Please note that no English version is available)
The World Wide Fund for Nature is the world's largest environmental conservation organization, with over 5 million supporters in approximately 100 countries.
Established in 1961, WWF started its works to protect wildlife on the verge of extinction. Now the works of WWF has been expanded to address other environmental threats such as global warming, over-fishing and deforestration. The mission of WWF is to build a world in which humans and nature can comfortably coexist by promoting the sustainable use of natural resources such as timber and marine resources. Olympus has been a supporter of WWF Japan since 1983, and WWF Japan supports "Global Warming Witness - Mitsuaki Iwago Special" by providing valuable input.
Refraining from the use of PVC (polyvinyl chloride) for the calendar holder, unlike many other calendars, is one way that the Olympus Calendar reduces the impact on the environment.
In addition, the Japanese edition is printed entirely on FSC certified paper*, and comes in book format (rather than tear off monthly and throwaway) for making the most effective use of paper resources because it can be enjoyed as a photo collection once the calendar has outlived its usefulness.
* Paper produced and certified in accordance with the standards of the FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) international forest accreditation program. FSC-certified paper is eco-friendly as it is sourced entirely from properly managed forests.
