| II. Implementing Eco-efficient Management | ||
| Preventing Global Warming | ∆ | [CO2 Emissions from Energy-System] 36.6% reduction per sales unit compared to FY1990 Olympus Group businesses in Japan have worked consistently to reduce energy consumption. These efforts have been reflected in a year-on-year reduction of approximately 200 tons. New environmental systems were introduced when operations started at the Mishima Plant. Emissions from overseas operations increased by approximately 7,000 tons as a result of increased production volume at our factories in China. Olympus Group businesses in Japan have worked consistently to reduce energy consumption.
These efforts have been were reflected in a year-on-year reduction of approximately 200

| Effective use of resources and reducing the amount of waste | [Waste Generation] 32% reduction per sales unit (compared to the FY2000) The amount of waste from our Japan-based operations was lower than in the previous FY year. Reasons for this reduction included the recovery of valuable resources through effective sorting, and the benefits of business site integration. The amount of waste generated from our overseas operations increased due to the expansion of experimental facilities in Europe and North America. |

Eco-management
| III.Practicing Global Environmental Management | ||
| Improving the system for complying with environmental laws and regulations | ∆ | Olympus has expanded information-sharing activities and completed preparations for compliance with China's Administration on the Control of Pollution Caused by Electronic Information Products. We have begun implementing trials of an information-sharing database relating to environmental laws and regulations. |
| Strengthening environmental risk management | Soil tests were carried out at the site of the former Sakaki Plant
of Olympus Opto-Technology Co., Ltd. and soil treatment was appropriately implemented.
We conducted an audit to ascertain whether any construction materials containing asbestos had been used in our facilities in Japan. The audit covered 71 sites, including business offices, facilities operated by affiliated companies, and employee hostels and housing. Work was carried out in accordance with Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare preventive regulations at five sites containing asbestos where there was a potential for the asbestos to become airborne. Priority was given to the removal of asbestos, and depending on the circumstances, steps were taken to enclose and contain the affected areas. |

Eco-Communication
| IV.Enriching Environmental Communication | ○ | Olympus has provided environmental education to our employees. We are
also enhancing our communication tools, including the CSR Report and the creation of English-language
websites. Recognition for these efforts, Olympus CSR and environmental activity internet
site won the
Corporate Division Excellent Award of the "Environment goo"(Only in Japanese) that one of the major environmental portal site in Japan. Our products were exhibited in the Eco-Products 2006 Exhibition and we continued hosting the "Global Warming Witness" website, featuring photography by Mr. Mitsuaki Iwago. We also staged a number of events, including corporate eco-forums. |
