| II. Implementing Eco-efficient Management | ||
| Preventing Global Warming | ∆ | [CO2 Emissions from Energy-System] 39% reduction per sales unit compared to FY1990 Initiatives to reduce CO2 emissions in Japan include the conversion of the Tatsuno Plant to operate on LNG instead of fuel oil, and the use of environment-friendly designs for new buildings at Hachioji and Aizu. We have also accelerated our CO2 reduction activities in China, including the use of independent experts to conduct energy audits. Emissions from overseas operations increased by approximately 7,000 tons as a result of increased production volume at our factories in China. [CO2 Emissions from Non-Energy-System] |
| Effective use of resources and reducing the amount of waste | [Waste Generation] 35% reduction per sales unit (compared to the FY2000) In our Japan-based operations, we increased the amount of valuable resources recovered through effective sorting. The amount of liquid waste resulting from our overseas operations increased due to the expansion of production in Europe and North America. |

We also continued with our preparations for compliance with the POPS Treaty and the REACH regulations. |
| Strengthening environmental risk management | We took appropriate steps to prevent soil contamination, based on an historical survey of soil data from our business sites. We also intensified measures to ensure full regulatory compliance in relation to waste disposal in the context of sales and service activities at all branches and sales offices. | |
