Environmental Impact
Olympus monitors environmental burdens loads from entire product cycle processes relating to our business activities, including resource procurement, manufacturing, distribution, waste disposal and recycling, and we are striving to mitigate those burdens. In FY2007 CO2 emissions resulting from manufacturing and logistics operations and waste per unit of sales were reduced, but absolute amounts were higher because of increased production. We worked to reduce total emissions by switching from fuel oil to LNG, which emits less CO2, by halving non-energy CO2 emissions, and by recovering valuable resources from waste. We plan to accelerate these initiatives with the aim of achieving further reductions in the absolute levels of environmental loads.
Environmental Impact of Business Activities
Note1: Discharge (total) = Discharge (waste) means landfill waste as well as recycled waste and does not include waste recycled into valuable resources. Values in this section contain those of waste discharged from logistics sites.
Note2: Waste emitted for landfill disposal as a prerequisite. Such waste undergoes volume reduction, such as incineration, and some of the residues are sent to landfills.
