ECOLY-Points Program for Environmental Activities

In fiscal 2009, Olympus introduced the ECOLY (ECO+Olympus) points program for environmental activities. The program is open to all Olympus Group employees.

The catchphrase for the program is “Eco Fun.” The aim is to encourage employees to participate in environmental initiatives by creating an accessible space that can be enjoyed by as many employees as possible. We will achieve this by placing relevant environmental information and interesting content on the intranet. Employees who participate in the ECOLY program earn points, which can be redeemed for eco-goods, according to the contribution made through their activities. By supporting employees’ environmental activities in this way, Olympus aims to instill environmental awareness in individual employees and encourage them to share environmental information and participate on a continuing basis.

ECO + Olympus = ECOLY

The ECOLY Process

Each month, employees will be given information about eco-friendly activities that they can do on a day-to-day basis, including CO2 reduction, 3R (reduce, reuse, recycle) activities, and water resource conservation. In addition to these day-to-day environmental initiatives, we will also arrange community-based activities, such as tree-planting. For example, in fiscal 2008 employees helped to develop a forest in Kanagawa Prefecture.

We will maintain and expand these environmental activities in fiscal 2009. In addition, we will introduce a new system that allows employees to redeem ECOLY points as cash donations to the World Wide Fund for Nature Japan.

The ECOLY program has only just begun. Watch it grow!
