Supporting WWF Japan with Nature Photo Calendars
The close links Olympus has developed over the years with the photographic community have made this WWF Japan support initiative possible, whereby we produce nature calendars (Japanese version) and donate them to WWF JapanNote 1.
Funds raised through the sale of these calendars are used to support the activities of WWF Japan. In the 2009 edition, we feature rare photographs of wild animals living deep in East Africa. The photographs were taken by Mr. Mitsuaki Iwago using an Olympus "E-3" digital single-lens reflex camera. These calendars are made entirely from recycled paper, and an alternative to PVC was used for the binders to ensure that the calendar would be totally pollution-free. The Japanese version calendar is made from environmentally sound FSC-certified paperNote 2 produced using resources obtained from appropriately managed forests.
Note 1: WWF, or the World Wide Fund for Nature, is the world's largest organization concerned with the protection of nature. It is active in approximately 100 countries and has the support of over 5 million people. The WWF was founded in 1961 to protect endangered wild animals around the world.
Currently, the WWF is engaged in protecting nature in a wider sense with the inclusion of environmental problems, such as global warming and toxic chemical pollution, and the promotion of the sustainable use of resources obtained from nature. Its ultimate goal is the creation of a new society in which people and the Earth can coexist in harmony.
Note 2: FSC-certified paper is paper certified as having been produced in accordance with the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) standards, which are an International forest certification system.
