Basic Environmental Plan
The Olympus Group has adopted a Basic Environmental Plan as a part of our medium-term planning to provide a framework for medium-term environmental activities. Under the Olympus Group Corporate Conduct Charter and Code of Conduct, Olympus will formulate a detailed action PLAN, then DO what has been planned, CHECK the results, and finally ACT on specific environmental measures.
Under the current Basic Environmental Plan that was launched in 2006, the Olympus Group is striving to make the eco-design Note1 an integral feature of our business as Olympus travels the road to becoming an environmentally advanced organization by fulfilling our responsibilities toward creating a sustainable society. The four pillars of the Olympus Group environmental initiatives are described below.
I. Products: Creating Sophisticated Environmentally-Conscious Products
II: Facilities: Implementing Eco-Efficient Management
III: Management: Practicing Global Environmental Management
IV: Communication: Enriching Environmental Communication
In fiscal 2008, we set a new long-term goal calling for the reduction of CO2 emissions throughout product lifecycles to one-half of the 2007 level by 2020. Our slogan for this initiative is "Carbon 1/2 2020." The entire Olympus organization is now working to achieve this goal and achieve growth under our corporate philosophy of contributing to the realization of a sustainable society and sound environment.
Note1: Eco-design = A comprehensive environment-responsive measure to reduce environmental load in society and realize a sustainable economic society. Eco-design aims to create new added value, optimizing manufacturing/producing technologies, business models, and social systems both from environmental and economic viewpoints.
