ODI is the sole Production facility for the reagent components of the Olympus Diagnostic Systems on the world healthcare market and occupies a pivotal role as the worldwide center for Development of reagents. In environmental activities, the new extension was completed in September 2004, and part of the completion work was to restore the surrounding grounds to their original state before work commenced. A century old dry stone wall that was removed during the renovations was rebuilt to its original state. The grounds were landscaped, extra trees and shrubs were planted. Also In December 2004, ODI switched all utility power to Green Electricity which is generated mainly from wind farms around Ireland but also through hydro energy from Scotland. As a result, we can reduce all ODI’s production of CO2 from its electricity consumption, drastically. In community based activities, ODI renovated the building which was originally built at the beginning of the 18th century but had fallen into complete disrepair since the 1960’s, using as many original materials as possible. Also, a megalithic tomb adjacent to the ODI building has been recognized by a plaque mounted beside the tomb.
