KeyMed (Medical & Industrial Equipment) Ltd.

Efforts of FY2005

KeyMed continues to encourage environmental education of its employees, highlighted by inclusion of an 'Environmental' section on the company's intranet. Explanations of the company's environmental policy, roles and strategies have been included, but an article on the new 'wormery' has proved to be the most popular with KeyMed staff. Originally holding 2,000 earth worms (Lumbricus terrestris), the wormery provides an experimental bio-degradables' waste stream, helping to reduce landfill by taking food scraps from the Day Nursery, while also being a novel educational tool for the children.

To assist employees when shopping, all members of staff have been provided with a pocket guide to green labelling, published by the UK Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DeFRA). This explains the meaning of environmental labels found on a wide variety of items, from food to vehicles, to encourage environmental awareness.

Finally, KeyMed's ISO 14001 registration is being extended to cover other parts of the KeyMed group - the Livingston, Scotland site has already been added to KeyMed's certification, while KeyMed Ireland, in Dublin, is on target to be registered by the middle of 2006.
