Efforts of FY2005
OPI was certified with ISO 14001 last May, 2005. A wastewater treatment facility, which consists of the collection tank, pH adjustment, rotary drum vacuum filter, and activated carbon, was established to expand to manage the wastewater generated from lens washing, oil separation and painting processes.
OPI is committed to support local government projects, such as tree planting, as well as national government projects concerning environmental preservation. Activities such as a tree planting was carried out last November 27, 2005 in support of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources' (DENR) program.
In the planting activity held at Tuyan, Naga Cebu, Mr. Kenichi Yamagishi (Environmental Management Representative) stressed that Olympus Philippines can make a great contribution in the restoration of our environment through initiating these activities. OPI promised to visit once every month to see the progress of the seedlings, and to see productive results of their hard labor and great productivity since the start of the operation. OPI had also participated in MEZ and FAMEA's(*1) mangrove planting project at Catarman, Cordova last December 3, 2005. More tree planting activities will be initiated by OPI in the future.
