In FY2006, Olympus (GuangZhou) Industrial Co.,Ltd./Olympus (Beijing) Industry & Technology Limited (Pan Yu Branch) (OGZ) had made effort as following environmental and CSR activities:
1) Fire Safety Award from GuangZhou City
Fire safety systems in use by Olympus (Beijing) Industry & Technology Limited (OGZ) have received extensive publicity in the region following a visit to the company's Pan Yu Factory by GuangZhou City officials and a fire safety study group. OGZ has become the industry leader in GuangZhou in terms of safety system development, and the fact that the annual incidence fires has been reduced down to zero bears witness to the effectiveness of our fire safety systems. The Vice Mayor of GuangZhou presented an award for individual achievement in a leading fire safety company in GuangZhou to the factory's safety officer.
2) 2004 Environmental Management System: Successful ISO14001 Audit
An external audit was carried out in pursuance of ISO14001 on our environmental management system, which is maintained under the direction of the factory's Environment and Safety Office, and no problems were identified.
3) Environmental Awareness and Safety Promotion Campaign
Environmental Awareness Month and Safe Production Month programs were implemented for the purpose of raising employee awareness of environmental issues and safety. Activities included environment and safety seminars, case studies of factory accidents, a campaign to save water, evacuation drills, and firefighting exercises.
4) Savings in Resources and Energy
The Pan Yu Factory implemented measures aimed at reducing energy and resource consumption, yielding excellent results, including a 40% reduction in domestic water consumption. Day-to-day measures to conserve expendable supplies were reflected in a 40% reduction in paper use, while waste management activities led to the recovery of over 99% of waste.
