Olympus Europa Holding GmbH
Efforts of FY2006
The UN decade for Education for Sustainable Development (2005-2014) aims to integrate the principles, values and practices of sustainable development into all aspects of education and learning. The senate of the city of Hamburg contributes to the UN decade with an own initiative. Olympus supported this initiative through a workshop with students from commercial schools in Hamburg. Olympus Europa GmbH (OE) showed the students how we are implementing CSR aspects into the business practice and strategy. In long and fruitful discussions the students asked and challenged Olympus with their remarks. With this workshop Olympus could actively promote the dialogue between schools and business.
OE also supports the exhibition on non-verbal communication "Scenes of Silence", that has opened in January 2007 in Rendsburg, northern Germany. "Scenes of silence" is an exhibition that seeks to visualise non-verbal communication by gesture, facial expression, body or sign language and hence contributes to the dialog between the non-hearing and hearing people. The aim of "Scenes of Silence" is not to simulate deafness but rather to exchange experience, rethink social clichés and overcome prejudices. Olympus supports this project by purchasing a ticket contingent that was provided to schools for free. The exhibition already employs 10 deaf people full time, possibly more will follow. Deaf people get a chance to be integrated in the labour market and can show their talents in the exhibition.
