Efforts of FY2006
Olympus Life and Material Science Europa GmbH(OLMEI) had made effort as following environmental and CSR activities:
a) Environmental Activities:
- Wood Chip Burner
We currently use oil fired burners for central heating. We are now replacing one of the oil fired burners with a Wood Chip Burner.
The woodchip burner will give us access to a fuel source that is local, cost effective (up to 50% cost reduction) and CO2 neutral.
- Willow Biofiltration Plantation
OLMEI commissioned a feasibility study on the introduction of a willow biofiltration plantation (6 Hectares) to provide a safer system to treat our final effluent while providing up to 50% of the wood mass for our wood chip burner
The feasibility study was successful & we are now at the design stage.
b) Community based CSR / Environmental Activities:
Junior Achievement is an organization supported by over 140 businesses in Ireland including Olympus. Training Programs are designed to give school students an appreciation of the value of work, enterprise and science. A number of volunteers from Olympus are involved in teaching these programs.
c) Social Contribution:
Charitable contributions to the Local Community.
OLMEI continues to support the local community by contributing to events & activities in Clare, including supporting traditional music festivals, elderly people's activities & local the children's library.
