Olympus Optical Technology Philippines, Inc.
Efforts of FY2006
It was on May 12-13 2006 when Olympus Optical Technology Philippines, Inc.(OPI) successfully upgraded its EMS Certification from ISO 14001:1996 version to ISO 14001:2004.
OPI is committed in the compliance with applicable legal requirements. For now, the company's environmental aspect with adverse impact to the environment is carefully identified and introduced mitigations and programs. The collection, segregation and proper disposal of hazardous wastes is properly in place to avoid contamination of the environment. Waste treaters and transporters were carefully selected through conduct of audit to ensure that OPI's hazardous wastes are legally and environmentally-friendly treated.
To continually harmonize its activity with the environment and show to the Philippine community our social responsibility, OPI continue to conduct restoration of the nature. We had a Mangrove Planting Activity at the coastal area of Olango Island. 2,500 propagules was planted by the team in the 1,028 hectares island. Preservation of the degraded marine ecosystem of the area is very important because the migratory bird use Olango Island as a major refueling station as well as wintering ground of East Asian-Australian flyway. The encounter bring the team closer with the mother nature.
