Efforts of FY2006
Olympus Winter & Ibe GmbH (OWI) has successfully maintained the environmental standard certification acc. to ISO 14001 during the annual surveillance audit and the environmental partnership with the Hamburg authorities with active support of the governmental programs for protection of natural resources. For the environmental projects major emphasis was placed on all activities with direct and significant decrease of energy consumption and consequentially the reduction of CO2 emission.
The following projects are highlighting the environmental activities at OWI:
The air ventilation system for the repair and service area has got an additional heat exchanging device installed for preheating the ventilation utilizing the exhaust air of the same area for preheating the fresh air. The new exchanging device has reduced the energy consumption of the room heating tremendously.
In case of reconstructions of the manufacturing and office areas all lighting has been changed to energy-saving lamps resulting in a reduction of the power consumption by almost 60% for the renewed areas.
In order to utilize the industrial waste heat a heat exchanging device has been installed for pre-heating the fresh water supply for the entire OWI facility. The heat exchanger is connected to the central compressor unit.
For the identification of potential programs for environmental protection and projects for continuous improvements a close cooperation has been established with the environmental authority in the City of Hamburg. Direct support has been provided by the authorities for the inspection of all power and heat consuming devices and the related advisory activities.
