Olympus America, Inc. National Service Center (NSC)

Efforts of FY2007

The San Jose National Service Center (NSC) reduced Green House Gas (GHG) emissions from vehicles by encouraging employees to car pool and take alternate mass transportation. The target was 3,100 less employee vehicle days (LEVD) for 140 P. The projected result is 3,600 LEVD. This was achieved by providing grocery gift cards to employees who carpooled or took alternate transports for a set number of days. In addition, reserved carpool-parking slots near the building entrances were established for carpoolers.

The NSC celebrated its second World Environment Day with multiple activities aimed at employees. Colorful displays on global warming, energy sources, carbon sequestration and educational materials and talks were delivered by outside experts. A quiz with multiple prizes was popular with employees.

The NSC reduced landfill disposal of waste paper towels by over 5%. This was achieved by installing new paper dispensers with better quality paper towels and educating employees on the excessive use of raw materials (tress) and creation of waste for landfill disposal.
