Efforts of FY2007
On December 3, 2007, the School of Sciences of the Universidad Austral de Chile in Valdivia, Chile was devastated by a major fire. The fire destroyed valuable research infrastructure, including not only microscopes in the research facility, but also accumulated research work and the results of experiments by Chile's leading scientists.
As a corporate citizen, Olympus Latin America (OLA) recognized the need to provide support for the university's research activities as quickly as possible. On December 4, the day after the fire, it donated funds and a BX51 advanced polarization microscope system. The university authorities expressed appreciation for this timely support from OLA, saying that the donations were also significant as an incentive for the resumption of research activities at the university.
