Environmental Knowledge Seminars
During environment month in June 2008, 4,300 employees (approximately 95% of all employees) participated in environmental knowledge seminars. The purpose of these seminars was to raise environmental awareness and encourage environmental activities by informing employees about actual contamination incidents that caused serious environmental impacts, and by imparting day-to-day environmental protection skills.
Firefighting and Evacuation Drills
In November 2008, all employees participated in drills designed to improve firefighting and evacuation drills in preparation for emergencies. There were significant improvements in evacuation performance. Employees took 10 seconds to prepare for the start of evacuation and 3 minutes 45 seconds to clear the site. Firefighting teams were able to assemble within 90 seconds. Employees also learned how to give first aid treatment to injured persons and underwent training in firefighting skills.
Continuing Efforts to Reduce CO2 Emissions
In fiscal 2008, OGZ succeeded in reducing CO2 emissions by 10% compared with the fiscal 2007 level. Related measures included a review of clean room cooling, the optimization of layouts for energy efficiency, a review of cooling in the sound recorder plant, the detection and repair of compressed air leaks, and modifications to the cooling water power system.
