Efforts of FY2008
Environmental Activities
Olympus Celebrates World Environment Day 2008. World Environment Day celebrations on June 5th at US Olympus locations highlighted resources and initiatives that promote low carbon economies and life-styles such as improved energy efficiency, alternative energy sources, forest conservation and eco-friendly consumption.
Expanded Recycling of Electronic Wastes. SIMS Recycling Solutions became the preferred provider of waste electronics recycling and reselling services for OCA and its operating companies in North America, providing cost-effective, secure and compliant management of Olympus product waste, ITS/telecommunication equipment, PDAs, batteries, bulbs, audio-visual equipment and other electronic wastes.
Community-based CSR/ Environmental Activities
Olympus and Wildlands Leaders (OWL). A partnership between the Olympus Fellows and Wildlands Conservancy was created to improve environmental awareness, stewardship and the quality of life in the Lehigh Valley; through this partnership, known as "Olympus and Wildlands Leaders" or OWL, the Fellows have become a dedicated volunteer resource for the organization, assisting them in giving back to the community through their charitable works. [The Olympus Fellows Program is a full-time, benefits-eligible leadership development program designed for new college graduates who have strong desires to pursue careers with a company whose products and services can help save lives and capture life’s most precious moments.]
National Parks Foundation and Olympus Photo Contest. A photo contest, in partnership with The National Park Foundation, encourages people to visit our national parks and federal lands, discover their beauty and diversity, and share that experience with all of America through photography.
Social Contribution
Visionary Volunteers. Members of our "Visionary Volunteers" program, which encourages and supports Olympus employees in giving back to the communities where we work and live, pulled a Boeing 727 airplane to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
Cameras for a Cause. For a second year, Olympus America will donate 10 percent of the proceeds from its consumer products sold through the eBay Giving Works auction to C3: Colorectal Cancer Coalition and the Entertainment Industry Foundation’s National Colorectal Cancer Research Alliance (EIF's NCCRA), to benefit advocacy and research.
Holiday Donations Feed Thousands. The Olympus philosophy of "Social In" - contributing to society by being a part of society - was fully evident in the holiday donations made to food banks around the country where Olympus and Gyrus ACMI employees work and live.
