Efforts of FY2008
Environmental Education
During Environment Month in June 2008, a variety of events were staged to raise employee awareness of the environment. These included energy saving quizzes, no-car days and an eco-bag design contest. In addition, all employees signed an environmental responsibility pledge.
As part of efforts to publicize these environmental activities beyond the Olympus Group, Eco-Bags bearing the Olympus logo were
distributed to customers as gifts. These activities helped to raise the Olympus Group's public image as an environmentally responsible company, while also raising the environmental awareness of employees.
Awards for Environmental Activities
In fiscal 2008, Olympus received awards from the city government in recognition of its energy conservation efforts, including the
introduction of energy-efficient lamps, the replacement of aging facilities, and the optimization of air conditioning systems, and for the
improvement of septic tanks.
· April 2008: Fiscal 2007 Award for excellence in waste reduction by a business corporation (20,000 yuan)
· September 2008: Environmentally progressive company award (100,000 yuan)
· November 2008: Award from Shenzhen City for an exemplary contribution to the recycling economy (200,000 yuan)
Water recycling
The factory’s plumbing systems were modified to allow pure water used in manufacturing processes to be reused in toilets, air conditioning filtration systems, carpet washing and other purposes. This initiative has resulted in recycling of 3,500m3 of water per month.
