Olympus NDT Inc. (ONDT)

Efforts of FY2008

Olympus NDT is committed to reducing our environmental impact by reducing energy consumption thereby lowering our carbon footprint. Most of the energy consumed at Olympus NDT's North American manufacturing facilities is used for space heating/cooling and lighting.

Completed and ongoing facilities projects include:

· Installing over 125 square meters of energy efficient exterior windows (Low-E glass) which reduce heat gain during the summer and heat loss during the winter.
· Reprogramming heating/cooling systems to minimize energy use while providing reasonable comfort to employees (in FY2009, Olympus NDT will be testing new-technology wireless thermostats that can be programmed and monitored from a computer in the building or over the internet -- in addition to allowing better control, this system collects data on energy use).
· Verifying that HVAC systems are working efficiently and correctly - especially temperature-controlled fresh air dampers
· Minimizing air exhausted from buildings
· Adding "air locks" on employee entrances
· Replacing T12-type lighting fixtures with more efficient T8-type lights
· Adding infrared occupancy sensors to turn off lights automatically when no employees are present
· Reducing the number of "night lights" left on overnight

Projects completed in manufacturing and office areas include:
· Reducing air leaks in compressed air systems
· Installing timers on ovens and air compressors to ensure that they are switched off overnight
· Replacing CRT displays with flat panels
· Installing energy-efficient (Energy Star) refrigerators and kitchen equipment

Olympus NDT is in process of calculating the final benefit achieved but each of these steps will contribute to the overall reduction in energy use. As an example of the benefits, Olympus NDT's Waltham facility has experienced a 20% reduction in energy use for space heating.
