Olympus Eco-Products
After evaluating the distinctive features of our business and products, Olympus has established "Olympus Eco-Products Standards" as its own environmentally-conscious designing standards in order to minimize the environmental load of its products. These standards are established referring to the Type II environmental label indication stipulations in the international standard ISO 14021.
Olympus Certified Eco-Products
Olympus Eco-product mark
We certify products that conform to the Olympus Eco-Products Standards as Olympus Eco-products. In fiscal 2007 we revised the standards and adopted the Olympus Eco-Products Administration Rules.
The standards were strengthened in order to reduce environmental footprints across entire product lifecycles by extending the scope of the standards to encompass not only the products and their packaging, but also manufacturing and logistical processes. The enhanced standards require attention to the four perspectives: environmental protection and safety, energy conservation, resource conservation and information disclosure. Applications for all products for which development began in or after April 2008 are based on the new standards.
The emphasis on disclosure reflects the importance that we place on the provision of accurate environmental information to users of our products. Qualifying products are labeled with "Eco-Product" marks to make them easily recognizable, and information about the environmental characteristics of each product is actively disclosed via the Internet and through other means.
