Olympus Surgical Technologies Europe (OSTE) [Hamburg]
Initiatives in fiscal 2010
Reducing Use of Water and Electricity
In fiscal 2010, OSTE Hamburg showed with two projects that the environment resource protection is not only a cost factor but has positive impact to the business, too. The targets of these projects were the reduction of waste water and decreased CO2 output.
In the first of there two projects, we elaborated a complete new cleaning concept for our manufacturing parts in the CNC department. In this concept Olympus Surgical Technologies Europe use resource protecting recirculation technology to save water as it is one of the most important natural resources. The target of saving of water will not only increase the company's return on investment, but also contribute notably to the ecological preservation. Water is much too useful, to use it only once before rejecting it as wastewater. The new cleaning plant is ordered and the installation is planed in June 2011.
Purchasing Green Electricity
The second project concerning directly, the CO2 reduction, we made a new delivery contract for supplying OSTE with only "green" energy. The new contract is for the supply period from April 1, in 2010 till March 31, in 2012(using only regenerative energy). The energy is only derived from water generated power and is CO2-free. With our yearly energy consumption we save 2,333 tons of CO2. So Olympus Surgical Technologies Europe, location Hamburg makes an active contribution to the conservation of natural resources.
