Policies for Corporate Activities
Corporate Governance
Olympus is continually working to provide value to all
stakeholders by establishing clear chains of business accountability and improving
management efficiency. Examples of this approach include the restructuring of
the imaging systems business and medical systems business as a separate company
in October 2004.
We have established the Global Strategy Committee to ensure
prompt decision-making about business operations while also providing appropriate
checks and balances by appointing two outside directors and two outside auditors.
Our compliance center has established the helpline where employees can seek
advice. Other priorities include information security, such as the protection
of personal information, and the maintenance of effective corporate risk management
systems.
Customer-focused Behavior
As a manufacturer, Olympus aims to provide high-quality
products and services that earn the satisfaction, confidence and trust of customers.
To achieve this goal, we have developed systems to reflect the wishes of customers
in the way that our products are made, as well as customer-focused quality assurance
and response systems.
Product maintenance for imaging systems is carried out
at the Hachioji Repair Service Center (Tokyo) and for medical systems at the
Shirakawa Medical Equipment Service Operation Center. Both are performed under
an integrated structure.
Procurement
Olympus procures the materials and parts used to produce
our various products, including cameras and medical equipment, from suppliers
around the world. We would not be able to manufacture our products without the
cooperation of these suppliers, and we therefore aim to include suppliers within
the scope of our CSR activities.
In addition to our traditional procurement criteria,
including quality, price, consideration for the environment and the ability to
deliver supplies on time, we are expanding our criteria to include an emphasis
on legal compliance, human rights, labor standards, and the prevention of corruption.
