Procurement Philosophy
Olympus procures the materials and parts used to produce our various products, including cameras and medical equipment, from suppliers around the world. We would not be able to manufacture our products without the cooperation of these suppliers, and we therefore aim to include suppliers within the scope of our CSR activities.
Under the Olympus Group Procurement Policy adopted in November 2005, we have sought the cooperation of suppliers through our worldwide procurement offices. In addition to our traditional procurement criteria, including quality, price, consideration for the environment and the ability to deliver supplies on time, we now also emphasize legal compliance, human rights, labor standards, and the prevention of corruption.
Existing Procurement Criteria and Policy
Self-Evaluation Questionnaire on CSR Activities
Last year we conducted a self-evaluation questionnaire on CSR activities in Japan, China, the Philippines, Singapore and Taiwan. This year, we asked Japanese suppliers to cooperate with our questionnaire program as part of more comprehensive survey covering such aspects as business conditions, disaster preparedness, the environment, quality and delivery dates. There were responses from 1,188 suppliers (about 92%). We will use these results to advance our CSR activities in cooperation with our suppliers and in the spirit of mutual respect.
