Involvement with People
Respect for Human Rights
Olympus group has formulated a basic human rights and labor policy for our corporate organization. Through our procurement policy, we ensure respect for human rights not only in our own groups' operations, but also in those of our suppliers.
Policies concerning the creation of dynamic working environments, in which each employee can develop his or her abilities to the full, are defined in the Workplace Management Handbook, distributed to managers. Other measures include the establishment of sexual harassment advice centers with advisers.
Personnel are appointed to positions on the basis of their professional abilities, and there is no gender-based discrimination in the recruitment process. Olympus also has an open-door policy for non-Japanese and workers with disability. In addition, we have established a new system whereby all employees who wish to work after retirement age are able to do so.
Every Olympus work site has an Occupational Safety and Health Committee made up of management and union representatives. Its task is to reduce workplace accidents and help to maintain and improve employee health. Initiatives that contribute to the development of dynamic and stimulating workplaces include various campaigns and seminars, such as healthful diet seminars.
Working Environments with Vitality
Olympus implements an array of measures designed to help all employees achieve their full potential. Particular care is taken to ensure that evaluation procedures and other aspects of working conditions are acceptable to both managers and employees.
Olympus employees have two avenues for advancement through in-house placements under the unique "Challenge System." When a department seeks human resources in-house, any employee can apply without the need to seek the approval of his or her supervisor. And any employee can apply to his or her supervisor for approval to seek a more suitable job within the Olympus organization. There are extensive opportunities for employees to develop their skills. In addition to the "Olympus College" in-house education system, there is also an advanced technical education system for skilled workers wishing to earn higher technical qualifications.
Olympus has also established employment and flexible-leave systems to help employees achieve a good work-life balance. In addition to encouraging system for paid annual leave in series and systems to assist employees with childcare and other care responsibilities, leave is also provided for voluntary activities.
Under the "Flex-leave Cafeteria Plan," employees receive yearly allocations of "Flex-leave" points that they can use as they wish to meet their specific needs. Another important benefit is the "Refresh Plan," which gives long-time employees bonus leave at career milestones.
