| The Olympus M-System was initially developed as a system that could be used for a wide range of purposes by assembling different units, each with a single function. This concept had never been applied to a camera system before, and Olympus considered the development of prototype units, including a unit combining a focal plane shutter and mirror box, as well as a finder unit and film back unit.
