Leveraging Microscope Technologies to Lead the Market for Inspection Equipment
Amidst intensifying global competition among digital home-appliance manufacturers, who are always aiming to reduce costs, the inspection stage of manufacturing is becoming increasingly important for reducing defective product rates. To meet these needs, Olympus leverages its tried and tested microscope technologies to offer a variety of industrial microscopes and nano-level measuring devices. These are particularly useful in the semiconductor and flat-panel display industries, as the materials they work with become more compact and diverse.
Olympus is investigating the application of microscope technologies across a variety of fields, including precision inspection of automotive engine parts, the potential growth field of inspection of micro machine components, and the inspection of metallic and chemical materials. Because industrial-use objective lenses must be of extremely high resolution, our endeavors in this field bring feedback that helps to improve technology throughout the entire Olympus Group. Working as a partner with companies in various industries, Olympus will make every effort to broaden the applications of its technologies and to contribute to raising the standards of safety and reliability.

Social Contribution through RVI and NDT
In the area of industrial endoscopes, Olympus has augmented its existing lineup of Remote Visual Inspection (RVI) products with the addition of Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) products, including ultrasonic/eddy current flaw detectors, greatly enhancing its ability to provide advanced and comprehensive solutions. Employed across a broad range of fields, our RVI/NDT products make substantial contributions to helping people live safer and more comfortable lives. Olympus' RVI/NDT products are deployed in maintenance services for turbine engines used in aircraft and power generators, as well as inspection of automobile engines; maintenance of gas pipes, water mains and other lifelines; archaeological research at historical sites; and life-saving emergency operations at disaster sites. We will continue to create new value that is beneficial to society in the area of RVI/NDT, supporting advances in the worldwide testing market. In the market for industrial-use printers, Olympus is taking active steps to capitalize on the rapidly growing needs surrounding color documents. Combining Olympus' technologies gained through business in industrial highspeed, large-format color inkjet printers with the knowhow gained by Riso Kagaku Corporation through its development, production and sales of the RISOGRAPH series of digital duplicator printers, we are working to create new business opportunities related to inkjet technologies.
