Creating Values Truly Recognized by the Global Market

Since its establishment, Olympus has been aiming to create new values from a global perspective. Starting in the United States and Europe, we have proactively implemented global strategies since the 1960s. As a result, we gained high recognition in the global market as a company with outstanding brand power in an imaging business encompassing digital cameras and medical business centering on gastroenterological endoscopes.

At the same time, we have started to entrust business operations to local staff from the early stage with the aim of establishing a community-based management structure that respects the culture, customs and market of each country of operations. Together with this, we formulated a globally integrated business structure to enable speedy decision making that takes into account the characteristics of businesses and changes in markets. Furthermore, based on the Olympus Group Environmental Charter, we are proactively addressing environmental issues at our bases around the world by leveraging our environmental management system.

The Olympus Group's Social IN management philosophy is at the foundation of its corporate activities around the world. Sharing in individual societies' senses of value in their respective business regions and promoting healthy and happy human lives through its business operations, Olympus will continue to reinforce its corporate brand power and create values truly recognized in the global market.

Olympus Corporation of the Americas (OCA) keeps our customer at the center of everything we do. We are guided by the belief that our business is based on long-term relationships, not transactions, with our customers.

As Olympus Corporation's representative in this geographic region, OCA is committed to upholding the Social IN philosophy. Volunteerism and community involvement thrive among our employees. Moreover, our advocacy efforts to raise awareness for colorectal cancer are stronger than ever and are core to our mission of enhancing people's lives every day. We also are committed to education, fostering it not only for our employees but our customers as well, through the Olympus University and by creating Centers of Excellence to enable healthcare practitioners to receive training on innovative new procedures.

Our customers are our partners, and we take seriously our responsibility to provide value and to help them meet the needs of the key stakeholders they serve. While our employees demonstrate their personal value for the Corporation today, we also are building OCA's management team of the future through our Olympus Fellows program, a unique, rotational program designed for outstanding new college graduates who are expected to thrive on challenge, take responsibility, respond quickly to change and communicate effectively, just as our customers have come to expect from Olympus.

The main goal for the Olympus group in Europe is to adapt our structure and processes to better meet the continuously changing market environments in the medical, consumer and industrial businesses. For this, we must properly understand the present and likely future needs of our customers and be prepared to implement the reforms necessary to increase our speed and efficiency, while adding value to differentiate our products and services from those of our competitors and maximize customer-satisfaction.

Equally, we must not forget our company's role in, and impact on, the societies in which we operate and the need to act responsibly at all times, for the benefit of our employees and the environment.

Within Olympus Europa we pride ourselves not only in providing good working conditions for our employees with many opportunities for career development, but also in promoting a culture of safety which pervades every part of the organization. It would be perverse if this attention to the welfare of our staff did not also extend beyond the company's gates to the societies in which we live with our families.

In this context, through the Olympus Europa Foundation, for many years we have provided support to essential research in the areas of medicine and the life sciences, and in co-operation with medical humanitarian organizations such as "Arzte der Welt" and "The International Award for Young People," we have supported safety improvements and the personal development of young people in the communities in which we are active.

In supporting the environment, we are working on many projects to reduce energy and CO2 emissions. At the new Olympus Winter & Ibe factory in the Czech Republic, for example, this includes a significant investment in environmental and energy-saving measures, making this the first Energy-AA-class factory in the entire country!

China is playing the role of manufacturing base to the world while at the same time finding itself at the center of expectations for drastic market expansion. Olympus (China) Co., Ltd. ("OCN") serves as the Olympus Group's regional control office in China and has committed itself to identifying market potential and significant business opportunities in China. Maintaining a healthy respect for the varied social systems, ethnic distinctions and cultures of China and striving to operate in harmony with them, OCN will constantly seek what society, the market and customers really want.

In addition, OCN will offer the universal values that Olympus has created while generating its own unique values in keeping with the needs of the Chinese market. Boasting an established business infrastructure and know-how gained over its 20-year history, OCN has become a major production base with over 10,000 employees. We will continue to contribute to the Group by leveraging our infrastructure and accumulated know-how to benefit all Olympus's business fields.

By doing so, we aim to become a business gateway in the Asian region and achieve a business scale comparable to that of the Group's bases in Europe and the Americas over the next four years.
