[United Nations Photo Exhibition]
The photo exhibition was also held at the United Nations Headquarters Exhibition Gallery in New York, commencing on 10/17/2003, the United Nations International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, and continuing to the end of November. The exhibition was a side event to the awards ceremony for people throughout the world contributing to poverty eradication through the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) with Olympus being specially invited by the UNDP to bring the exhibition to the United Nations in New York.
An opening reception was held for the photo exhibition with some 300 invited guests on October 29, the day of the awards ceremony. The ribbon cutting ceremony held at the opening was performed by Mr. Masatoshi Kishimoto, Chairman of Olympus, Mrs. Nane Annan, wife of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, as well as staff of the United Nations such as Mr. Ibrahim Gambari, Under-Secretary-General and Mr. Shashi Tharoor, Under-Secretary-General along with John Issac, one of the photographers participating in "A Day in the Life of Africa".

[Presentation of the donation from Mr. Kishimoto, Chairman of Olympus Corporation]
The chairman of Olympus used this occasion to make a donation to the United Nations Millennium Development Goals* for AIDS education aiming to highlight the African AIDS problem. Furthermore, this donation totaled approximately US$33,000, corresponding to the profits from the exhibition held at the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography.

To those people that take the opportunity to view the photo exhibition we would like to warmly express our thanks and say that admissions fees paid are making a difference by going towards social contributions.
* A 15 year plan was adopted at the United Nations Millennium Summit in 2000. Developed into a set of 8 goals including the eradication of world poverty and starvation, achievement of elementary level education, gender equality and AIDS eradication, etc., commencing in 2003.
