On the wonder of photography

On the wonder of photography
The summer I was 15, at the Grand Canyon in America,
I suddenly cried
overcome by the scenery
I cry, too, at the joy of taking photos
digital or film, photos are photos
unlike movies, you have to put everything in a single frame
there are lots of things I like, but photography is the best
taking photos is fun, but sometimes it's hard
when I see a finished print I've fretted and struggled and had fun creating
I know I could never give this up . . .
it's the thrill and excitement that make me keep taking photos
2 a.m. - ordinarily I would be going to bed
with two hours sleep, I urge my sleepy-headed self on
4 a.m. dawn - the sky and the sea should be waking
steadying my nerves, I peek into the viewfinder
and put everything that my eyes see and my skin feels
into a single frame
