
Masako Imaoka
Born in Kanagawa, Japan, Masako Imaoka is a photographer who has documented the aftermath of war and natural disaster in Asia and around the world. She has received numerous awards, including an SSF Award in the SSF World Sports Photo Contest (2001), the 2nd Annual Photo City Sagamihara Photo Newcomer of the Year Award (2002), and the 23rd Higashikawa New Photographer Prize (2007). Numerous exhibitions of her works have also been held.
Imaoka is affiliated with the On Asia Images photo agency, and has published "Re-Birth - Women Beside the Ruins" and "Around the Taklamakan Desert."
On the wonder of photography
Personally, I enjoy looking at photos and remembering the circumstances that made me want to take them. Sometimes I just let chance be my guide, and wander around town with a single lightweight camera, and no set purpose or specific theme in mind.
