Momoko Oshita
Tokyo-born Momoko Oshita attended Japan Women's University, and began taking photographs in earnest after covering the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships in Vail, Colorado in 1989. She often focuses on sports, dance, and other active subjects in her work, and as one of the few women photographers on the ski circuit, she travels extensively in the winter months to shoot skiing and snowboarding events in Japan and abroad.
Oshita is a member of the Japanese Sports Press Association and the International Ski Journalists Association, and has published a collection of photos of the late Austrian skier, Bernd Greber.
On the wonder of photography
To me, the wonder of photography is that it enables me to meet all kinds of people and experience all kinds of things. It's the audible pulse and palpable tension of top athletes in action. And the bright eyes and intent faces of young children chasing after baseballs and footballs on a sunny day.
It's the ability to share that passion and joy - and occasional frustration - that makes sports photography so much fun. I was a competitor myself in my student days, and although my moments of glory are in the past, photography lets me share the joy and excitement with others again.
