The infrastructure for broadband communication
has been developing particularly rapidly in metropolitan areas. This has enabled
far more rapid transmission and dissemination of much greater volumes of information.
In broadcasting, education, and across a broad range of other fields, this
infrastructural expansion has been accompanied by the search for content able
to fully exploit the advantages that broadband communication brings to the
marketplace.
The development of a super high-fidelity digital video camera that can capture
eight-megapixels makes it the prime candidate for the next-generation imaging
system capable of projecting a high-resolution display onto large screens.
Given this context, we decided to invite Tomonori Aoyama, a well regarded authority
on information science and engineering, to talk with imaging experts from Olympus
about the future prospects for communication and broadcasting.
Hollywood and other centers of the movie industry have shown great interest
in the activities of the Digital Cinema Consortium led by Professor Aoyama.
