The Olympus Technology Fair 85 (OTF85) was held
between December 1 and December 3, 2004, at the Tokyo International Forum Exhibition
Hall. The event began with a theme theater presentation using the Vision Plex
large-screen high-resolution imaging system. Throughout the fair, a variety
of imaginative techniques were used to present the entire range of Olympus
technology, including imaging, medical technology, life science, industrial
technology, design, and future-oriented research.
How can you describe, in ways that everyone can understand, the potential of
specialized and complex technologies that in the near future will open paths
to achievements that would once have been impossible? Olympus made extraordinary
efforts to meet this challenge. What was the response, and what expectations
were raised?
The following article is based on documents from the fair. It includes six
close-up surveys of specific aspects of the fair, based on interviews with
engineers.
