Designing dreams

The Design Center was located near the center of the venue. There were three display concepts: "dreams," "the connection of technologies and people," and "the creation of products."

Visitors were able to experience design work at first-hand and learn about the design process through which new products are created, beginning with the creation of ideas for products ranging from consumer items, such as cameras, IC recorders and microscopes, to specialized items for medical and industrial uses. There was also an area with actual displays of design images for products that are likely to appear in the near future. This display provided an excellent interface for communication with visitors.

A Meeting of Dreams and Ideas

Olympus employees submitted a flood of dreams and ideas for the Dream Square event. Visitors nodded at some ideas, such as tiny robots to treat disease from inside the body, and smiled at others, including a bio-battery fueled by body fat and ideas that seemed to have come from theme parks.

The presentations about these dream ideas

To meet again in five years' time at OTF90
The phrase "To the Future" expressed the Group's commitment to meet the public once again in five years' time at OTF90.

To the Future

This area provided a summary of OTF85 in the form of messages from the Olympus Group as a global corporation. The messages centered on the Olympus Group's initiatives and pledges toward the environment, which is a central focus of the Group's corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities as a global corporate citizen, and on its dreams for the creation of new business activities.

Future Creation Laboratory

Alongside the Corporate Zone was a display concerning the mission and activities of the Future Creation Laboratory as one of the Olympus Group's research organizations.

The role of the Future Creation Laboratory is to discover new values that will enrich the lives of people five years or ten years hence, and beyond. As a framework for its activities, it has established three domains: Bioscience, Humanware and Optical Nanotechnology.

The logo of the Future Creation Laboratory
Light is the source of all life on Earth, and optodigital technology is a core technology developed by Olympus through the use of light. This was symbolized in the use of the three primary colors of light: red, blue and green. The shapes also symbolize concepts, such as the teamwork of research and the ability to think flexibly. Irregular forms were used to represent the human characteristics that point to the unknown future potential of the Future Creation Laboratory. The irregular gaps in the positioning of the shapes symbolize exploration and the quest for answers.
