Katsuyoshi Sasagawa led the development of electrical systems to be used in videoscopes developed for the European and North American markets. He has been involved in the capsule endoscope project since its inception in April 2003. The aim is to develop a passive capsule endoscope for use in observation of the small intestine. Sasagawa recalls that OTF85 provided a unique opportunity to raise awareness of Olympus technology by displaying the diminutive exterior and inner workings of the capsule endoscope.

Shin'ichi Miyamoto has been involved in the development of ultrasound capsules, which are based on element technologies developed for ultrasound endoscopes. People were surprised at the size of the capsules, which is in part attributable to the fact that the technology is still at the development stage. However, Miyamoto is confident that Olympus will be able to display more advanced versions, or even more innovative ideas, five years from now.
