Digital SLR Market Expands as Line-up Is Strengthened
|
---- Have the ranks of digital SLR users expanded since the launch of the E-1?
With the launch of the E-300, E-500 and the E-330, the SLR market has become more visible. Our answer to these developments has been to present the trend for Olympus digital SLRs as Chapter 2. We place the E-410, the E-510 and the E-3 within the trend of "Chapter 2".
---- The number of female users is increasing, too ...
Yes. We believe the goal is to pursue the camera's essence as a small, light, portable device. The compact, lightweight E-410 is the embodiment of the world's smallest, lightest Four-Thirds digital SLR. Even though the catalog may give you an idea of how compact it is, the thrill is even greater when you actually hold it. The E-510 is equipped with a full range of functions, but the real centerpiece of the Chapter 2 lineup is the E-3. When you pick it up, you should get the feeling that there's nothing on earth that you cannot photograph. However, you have to be ready for the price and the size... in which case, just remember that there's still the E-410 and the E-510. I'm looking forward to people's evaluations when all three types are on the market.
---- How do you think people who already use the E-1 will accept the E-3?
 |
The E-3's Dual-Axis Flexible Angle Live View uses a Hypercrystal LCD monitor that moves freely along the horizontal and vertical axes. It's really popular with professional photographer and skilled amateurs.
|
They should really feel comfortable with the size and balance in my view.
The design concept was based on concentrated technology, ruggedness, style and vigor. I suspect that Kataoka-san, who was responsible for the internal structure, probably felt it could be made even smaller. Rather than pack everything into the smallest possible functional space, we created a design that emphasizes the optimal shape for a camera as well as ease of use.
---- Isn't Live View one of the E-3's main features?
E-330 users rated Live View very highly indeed, so for the E-3 we developed a Dual-Axis Flexible-Angle function that allows the LCD monitor to be tilted to any angle.
Being able to take photographs while watching the image in the LCD monitor makes it much easier to capture natural expressions even with children because they are not conscious of the camera. Even professional photographers have told us they are delighted with this.
