Easy to Operate Menu. Ingenious Ideas for Switch and Shutter Sounds
|
---- Doesn't adding sophisticated functions make operation more complex?
 |
The control panel display at the top of the E-3. Allows all the information necessary for photography to be displayed in an uncomplicated layout.
|
It's not a good idea to make the menu display too complex. The later the model in the E Series, the more effort has been put into ensuring that the menu is easier to use even though the menu items have increased in number.
With the E-1, each function was assigned its own button. This approach was based on the concept that the buttons be separated so that once users get used to using the camera, they can operate them unseen while looking through the viewfinder. Users who are not accustomed to using the buttons, on the other hand, have to locate them. This makes the camera difficult to use for people who are not used to it or use different kinds of camera bodies. That said, too few buttons would also be troublesome because users would have to select from a hierarchy of operational functions. The E-3 neither depends on independent buttons to the same extent as the E-1, nor requires that users have to select from a hierarchical sequence of functions. We aimed for the best of both worlds.
---- Surely there aren't that many functions that are used all the time?
That's right. For starters, simply press here and select the function you want. You can start by selecting everything at one place, then as you get used to the camera, make direct selections using the relevant buttons. In the case of the E-500, for example, many menu items depend on the Super Control Panel, but you can select operations even if you don't know how to operate the Super Control Panel very well. Our aim is to enable anyone to use the camera in their own way.
The "feel" of the E-3's switches has been improved and they make no clicking noise when you press them. That's because people tend to notice such sounds in concert halls and similar venues. The E-3 offers silence in operation.
---- On the other hand, some people claim that the sound of the shutter supplies the rhythm when taking photos.
We knew that the shutter must make a nice sound. They say that different camera manufacturers create different sounds. As a result of our efforts to ensure precision in all components, all sounds are natural, high quality mechanical sounds.
