Zuiko Digital lenses are manufactured at Olympus's plants in Tatsuno, Japan, and Shenzhen. As an optical systems designer, he is often involved in shop floor activities. He entered the company at the same time as device designer Tetsuya Toyoda. Like him, he got interested in astronomy in high school and needed a camera to photograph the stars. He majored in physics at university, but says he acquired all his knowledge about lens design after joining the company. Whenever he has free time, he enjoys stargazing, like many of his colleagues in the Camera Division.
