| Olympus Optical Co., Ltd. ( President: Tsuyoshi Kikukawa ) has announced the establishment in Sao Paulo, Brazil of Olympus Optical do Brasil Ltda., a directly controlled sales subsidiary with a 99% investment. The aim is to increase sales of endoscopes and biological microscopes in Brazil, which is the biggest market in Latin America. The new company will commence operations on October 1. |

| Olympus Optical has been focusing on Latin America as the growth market second to Asia, and took steps to strengthen its sales organization with the establishment of Olympus Latin America in Miami, US this April. Sales of medical equipment such as endoscopic video systems and biological microscopes have been strong in Brazil, and demand growth is forecast for the future. In this environment, Olympus Optical, aiming to build an even stronger sales organization in Brazil, has decided to set up the sales subsidiary Olympus Optical do Brasil. Olympus Optical do Brasil will transform the existing sales organization based on local sales agencies into to a system that sells directly to hospitals, universities and other institutes, and will also focus on after-sales service. The aim of these moves is to further improve the level of customer satisfaction with Olympus products. The new company will continuously assess customer needs and actively develop marketing initiatives targeting market expansion over the medium to long term. Olympus Optical do Brasil aims to enhance the value of the Olympus brand in Brazil into the future. In addition to the further diffusion of endoscopic video systems, the company will expand the peripheral business, which includes endo-therapy products and endoscope reprocessing system, as well as strive to increase the penetration of endoscopes in the surgical market and of biological microscopes in the research market. |
