| Summary |
 |
| Olympus Imaging Corporation (President: Masaharu Okubo)
is pleased to announce the introduction of 2 new professional-quality
telephoto zoom lenses for use with “Designed-for-Digital”
SLR cameras. “ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 35-100mm F2.0” lens is
scheduled to go on sale in October 2005, and the super-telephoto “ZUIKO
DIGITAL ED 90-250mm F2.8” lens is scheduled to go on sale in
December 2005. |
 |
| “ZUIKO DIGITAL” lenses are interchangeable
lenses that maximize the performance potential of the image sensor
in “Designed-for-Digital” Olympus E-System digital SLR
cameras. The two newly announced lenses feature an inner zoom mechanism
that eliminates the need for the lens to extend or retract during
zooming. They also boast uncompromising professional-grade specifications
that ensure superb imaging performance. They are new-generation telephoto
zoom lenses that fully realize the “Four-Thirds System”
advantages of high mobility, high image-quality, superior brightness,
and excellent close-up capability. |
 |
| “ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 35-100mm(70-200mm*1)
F2.0” features a wide zoom range that offers both the natural
perspective of medium-telephoto zoom and the compressed perspective
of telephoto zoom. It is the first*2 lens in the world
to combine this versatile zoom range with a maximum aperture of F2.0
at any zoom setting |
 |
| In addition to offering impressive 250mm(500mm*1)
telephoto power, “ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 90-250mm(180-500mm*1)
F2.8” lens is a fast-aperture, super-telephoto zoom lens that
offers a maximum aperture of F2.8 at any zoom setting. And it’s
the first zoom lens to combine a maximum aperture F2.8 with super-telephoto
power -something that was previously available only in fixed focal
lenses. |
 |
| With the addition of the “ED 35-100 F2.0”
and “ED 90-250mm F2.8” lenses to the previously released
“ED 150mm F2.0” and “ED 300mm F2.8” fast-aperture,
super-telephoto lenses, Olympus now offers an impressive line-up of
“ZUIKO DIGITAL” super-telephoto lenses. As a result, users
can shoot at fast shutter speeds and effectively blur background elements
to suit their creative goals when taking portraits, wildlife, and
sports photos. |

Expanded Shooting Capabilities of the
World’s First*3 F2.0 Large-Aperture Telephoto Zoom
Lens |
| |
“ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 35-100mm F2.0” is the
first 35-100mm (70-200mm*4) telephoto zoom lens in the
world to offer a bright, F2.0 aperture at any zoom setting. Its sharp,
clear imaging performance at F2.0 makes it ideal for shooting portraits,
stage plays and concerts, nighttime sporting events under lights,
and other subjects where fast shutter speeds or a shallow depth of
field are needed. |

1-Super-ED-Lens Element and 4-ED-Lens
Elements for Minimal Chromatic Aberration |
| |
1-Super-ED-lens element and 4-ED-lens elements are
used to suppress the chromatic aberration that can occur with telephoto
lenses. Thanks to the use of a Super ED element that has chromatic
dispersion properties very similar to fluorite, resolving power and
contrast are excellent, and chromatic aberration is suppressed to
a greater degree than is possible with conventional optical glass. |
 |

Floating Mechanism with a Minimum Focusing
Distance of 1.4 meters |
| |
The focusing system uses an advanced floating mechanism
that assures a minimum focusing distance of only 1.4 meters. Imaging
performance is excellent from infinity right down to the minimum focusing
distance. |

 |
 |
Petal-Shaped Lens Hood with Polarizing Filter Adjustment
Window |
 |
The large, petal-shaped lens hood features a sliding
window for easy filter rotation when using a polarizing filter. |

Expanded Shooting Capabilities of an F2.8, Large-Aperture,
Super-Telephoto Zoom Lens |
| |
“ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 90-250mm(180-500mm*5) F2.8”
lens is an super-telephoto zoom lens that offers a bright, F2.8 aperture
at any zoom setting. Its sharp, clear imaging performance at F2.8
makes it an ideal choice in situations that require fast shutter speeds
or a shallow depth of field. It also instantly allows optimum framing
for efficient sports and wildlife photography in situations where
it is difficult to get close to the subject. |

3-ED-Lens Elements for Minimal Chromatic Aberration |
| |
Three ED lens elements ensure maximum resolving power
and contrast, and minimize the chromatic aberration that can occur
with telephoto lenses. |
 |
| 3. |
Inner Focusing Mechanism with a Minimum Focusing Distance
of 2.5 Meters |
| |
An inner focusing mechanism is used to assure a minimum
focusing distance of only 2.5 meters. Imaging performance is excellent
from infinity right down to the minimum focusing distance. |
 |
| Shared Features |
 |
 |
Reliable, Dust and Water Droplet Resistance Construction |
 |
External components are thoroughly sealed to ensure
high resistance to dust and moisture. As a result, the lens can withstand
the rigorous demands of professional shooting under adverse conditions. |
 |
 |
Responsive Coreless Motor for High-Speed Auto-focusing |
 |
The auto-focus drive system uses a highly responsive
core-less motor to assure faster auto-focusing and stress-free shooting. |
 |
 |
Focus Limit Switch and Focus Stop Button |
 |
A focus limit switch allows focusing time to be reduced
by limiting the focus range to far distances or near distances. In
addition, there is a focus stop button to prevent the auto-focus system
from responding to foreground movement after correct focus on the
primary subject has been achieved. |
 |
 |
Circular Aperture Diaphragm |
 |
A circular aperture diaphragm with 9 blades ensures
smooth background blurring at larger apertures. |
 |
 |
Multi-Coated Lens Elements |
 |
Multi coating ensures minimal ghosting and flaring
in backlit conditions. (The “ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 35-100mm F2.0”
features a newly developed multi coating that suppresses reflection
at a wide range of wavelengths.) |
