Firmware Update Service Announced
for OLYMPUS E-System Camera Bodies, Lenses and Flash Units
Olympus Corporation has announced the start of a firmware update service for camera bodies, lenses and flash units in the Olympus E-1 interchangeable-lens-type digital SLR camera system. The updates can be performed using the OLYMPUS Viewer software included with E-1 system cameras or optionally available OLYMPUS Studio software. The update service has begun on January 28, 2004.
To make use of the service, simply connect the camera body to an Internet-enabled computer (via the cable included with the camera), start the OLYMPUS Viewer or OLYMPUS Studio program, and select "Firmware Update" from the program's Help menu. The program will check the version number of the firmware currently in the camera, and, if necessary, automatically download and install the appropriate update via the Internet. Thanks to this service, users will be able to obtain and install the latest firmware without the bother of manually checking the version number of their current firmware, searching for and downloading an update to their computer, and transferring the update to their camera's memory media. More detailed information is explained. Please click "Firmware Update Preparation" and "What will be revised by the update" of following Related link.
Version 1.1 of OLYMPUS Viewer or OLYMPUS Studio is required to access the E-1 system firmware update service. To update previous versions of OLYMPUS Viewer or OLYMPUS Studio, start the program and select "Software Update" from the program's Help menu. Your browser software will automatically start and take you to the web page where you can download the version 1.1 updater. The updater adds E-1 system firmware update capability to your OLYMPUS Viewer or OLYMPUS Studio software.
System requirements: Windows(R) 98SE / Me / 2000 / XP, USB 1.1 / USB 2.0 / IEEE1394
MacOS 9.1 / 9.2 or MacOS X 10.1.3-10.2 / 10.2.7 / 10.3, USB 1.1 / USB 2.0 / FireWire
Users without Internet access should contact their local Olympus service center.
