1.3 million pixel CCD
Bright 3x zoom lens
Compact, lightweight and stylish
Outstanding cost performance
Olympus Optical Co., Ltd. is pleased to introduce the CAMEDIA C-960ZOOM compact digital camera. Featuring a CCD with 1.3 million pixels and 3x zoom lens, the new release offers easier operation as well as the high-performance functions of the bestselling C-920ZOOM. Even with these advantages, it is priced very affordably.
The digital camera market has recently seen the launch of models with 2 or even 3 megapixels. Nevertheless, those in the 1 megapixel class continue to enjoy brisk sales. This demand reflects their easy data handling along with outstanding cost performance.
The Olympus CAMEDIA Series has been in the forefront of the trends. Introduced in 1998, the C-900ZOOM featured a 3x optical zoom lens, 1.3 million pixel CCD and compact, stylish design. Both it and the later C-920ZOOM have enjoyed strong sales for a long time, winning wide acclaim for their image quality, friendly operation and easy portability.
The ultracompact C-960ZOOM takes another step in raising this balance of performance and affordability. Building on the design of the earlier C-920ZOOM, it has the same functions plus better cost performance, easier operation and superior image quality.
High-resolution images with vibrant colors are by design. The high-sensitivity 1/2.7-inch CCD - the same one used in the earlier C-920ZOOM - has 1.3 million pixels. To make the most of this performance, the Multivariator 3x zoom lens is bright from wide-angle to telephoto settings.
Finished in a new silver color, the compact and stylish body holds a number of advanced functions including versatile flash modes. There are fine-tuned adjustments for sharpness, equivalent ISO sensitivity and other settings. And a range of shooting modes ensure that photographers have everything needed to express themselves. Standard icons make it easy even for beginners to control settings quickly and easily.
The design also reflects the CAMEDIA goal of digital snapshooting anywhere and anytime. The optional lithium battery pack has the power for carefree extended shooting. And the C-960ZOOM has the responsiveness of an extremely short release time-lag and very fast recording.
Main Features
Improved CCD with 1.3 Million Pixels
The C-960ZOOM's advantages start with the earlier C-920ZOOM's 1/2.7-inch CCD with 1.3 million pixels. Its proven performance combines high resolution with natural-looking colors.

Multivariator 3x Optical Zoom Lens
Compact and lightweight, the C-920ZOOM's Multivariator 3x optical zoom lens delivers exceptional image quality by minimizing aberration and luminance variation around the edges of the frame.
Delivering the highest resolution in its class, the lens has a six-group layout with eight lens elements including two aspherical glass elements. The F2.8-F4.4 lens is bright in the telephoto range as well as at wide-angle settings. And zooming of 5.4-16.2 mm - equivalent to the 35-105 mm coverage of a 35 mm camera - is suited to most occasions.

Even with its excellent image quality and high-performance functions, the C-960ZOOM is very affordably priced.

The C-960ZOOM is finished in a new silver color that imparts a more sophisticated look. It also draws on Olympus' longstanding expertise in 35 mm cameras for the advanced miniaturization technologies and design essential to easy portability and friendly operation. Doubling as the power switch, the sliding lens barrier both protects the zoom lens and simplifies operation - just what is needed for worry-free portability.

Standard Icons for Menu Settings
Along with the arrow keys, the new standard icons make it easy and fast to choose the appropriate settings.

Long-Lasting LB-01 (CR-V3) Lithium Battery Pack
The C-960ZOOM works with the optional LB-01 (CR-V3 )lithium battery pack as well as alkaline, nickel cadmium and nickel metal hydride batteries. Capable of capturing 2-3x as many shots as an alkaline battery, it makes digital photography carefree, even over an extended period.

Fine-Tuned Settings
The Sharpness function has the added control of Normal and Soft settings. Convenience has been enhanced by a Power Off Mode Memory that preserves manual settings for the next time the camera is turned on.

Slow Synchronization Mode
Along with the four flash modes - Auto, Red-Eye Reduction, Off and Fill-in - there is a Slow Synchronization Mode. It is ideal for shooting in low light, photographing a subject against nighttime scenery, capturing the flowing traces of moving lights or recording an after-image.

Four ISO Sensitivity Settings
To accommodate a full range of situations, the C-960ZOOM has four ISO settings. The Auto setting automatically adjusts the IS0 from approximately 125. The Standard setting has a fixed sensitivity of approximately ISO 125, the 2x setting is for the range up to approximately ISO 250, and the 4x setting raises the sensitivity up to approximately ISO 500. This versatility is particularly handy for capturing a natural ambience indoors or when flash photography is prohibited. It can also be used to prevent camera shake in telephoto shots.

Two Metering Modes for the Right Exposure
The Digital ESP Metering System is an exclusive Olympus innovation. Using a new measurement program, it determines the appropriate exposure by taking separate readings around the edges of the frame as well as in the center. In backlit or high-contrast situations, the system prevents murky dark areas and washed-out white portions. There is also Spot Metering for an accurate exposure based on any point in the frame.

Preset White Balance
In addition to Auto White Balance, four color temperatures - sunlight, overcast skies, tungsten light or fluorescent light - can be selected. This capability ensures optimal color reproduction when Auto White Balance may encounter difficulties.

Manual Exposure Compensation
Along with Programmed AE, there is Manual Exposure Compensation for fast and accurate setting of the exposure. It has the range and precision of +-2 EV with fine adjustment in 1/2 EV steps.

Digital Tele and Closeup Modes
In the SQ Mode, the 2x Digital Tele Mode can be combined with 3x optical zooming to create a maximum effect of 6x zooming. After recording, images can be enlarged 3x for display.

Video Output
The video output terminal can be used to connect the C-960ZOOM to a TV monitor for large-screen display of images. A video cable is included with the camera.

64 MB SmartMediaTMCard Compatibility
Images are stored on SmartMediaTM 3 V (3.3 V) cards. An 8 MB card with a Panorama Stitching function is included, and the C-960ZOOM is compatible with the 64 MB card - the largest capacity currently available.

Easy Data Transfer
A wide range of optional accessories make data transfer as easy as inserting a SmartMediaTM card in a slot. They include the USB-compatible MAUSB-2 SmartMediaTM card reader/writer, the MAFP-2N floppy disk adapter and MA-2 PC card adapter.

Processing Capabilities
SmartMediaTM function cards from Olympus offer image processing functions as well as storage capabilities. With the included 8 MB card, a PC running Olympus' original CAMEDIA Master 1.2 software can turn a number of Panorama Stitching Mode shots into a single Panorama image. The CAMEDIA Master 1.2 application software is part of the optional C-7KP PC connection kit.
The optional Calendar Card makes it easy to create an original calendar, while the optional Template Card holds illustrations which can be combined with digital images. With the optional Title Card, handwritten notes or drawings can be superimposed on an image to create original greeting cards.

Images can be recorded in the JPEG format which follows the DCF*1 specifications established by the JEIDA*2. DPOF*3 recording is also possible - compatibility that ensures the files will work easily with other DPOF-compatible products.

CAMEDIA P-330N Digital Color Printer

It also offers the convenience of a SmartMediaTM card slot for direct output of A6-size (105 x 148 mm) prints. Trimming and sharpness adjustments can be made without a PC, and the P-330N can print on 4-, 9- and 16-cut sheets.
