Olympus Optical Co., Ltd. (President: Tsuyoshi Kikukawa) is pleased to introduce the CAMEDIA C-4100ZOOM, a high-quality, 4-megapixel compact digital camera that features an easy-to-handle body and a bright, F2.8 3x optical zoom lens with a zoom range equivalent to 32mm~96mm on a 35mm film camera.
Fitting into the Olympus digital camera product line just above the CAMEDIA C-3100ZOOM that was introduced in November 2001, the CAMEDIA C-4100ZOOM offers the enhanced imaging capabilities of a 4-megapixel CCD for superb print quality. It is also the first CAMEDIA camera to offer histogram display both during and after shooting. Other new features include Super Macro shooting from as close as 2cm, four My Mode settings, and a wider range of preset white balance settings. A Mode Dial and Virtual Dial make it easy to adjust settings quickly, while Scene Program modes allow instantaneous response to a variety of shooting situations. In addition, users can even choose the area of frame they want the autofocus system to focus on. With this level of advanced control, it's easy for photographers to obtain the precise results they want.

Despite its sophisticated capabilities, the CAMEDIA C-4100ZOOM is affordably priced and so easy to operate that it allows digital camera users of virtually any level to obtain truly stunning image quality.
Top Features
High-precision, 4-megapixel CCD (4 million effective pixels) and a 3x optical zoom lens for superb image quality.
Functional and easy-to-handle body design
Numerous new features for superior image quality and image control
Advanced features for shooting and operating ease
Main Features
CCD resolution has been increased from three to four megapixels, and the high-performance zoom lens features two aspherical lens elements, as well as F2.8 shooting capability at any zoom setting. As a result, imaging capabilities are enhanced to ensure truly outstanding print quality. In addition, a new image quality setting with a 3:2 aspect ratio allows photographers to capture images at the same aspect ratio as 35mm film, which is ideal for portrait shooting.
Other features for enhanced image quality include an improved iESP* Auto White Balance function that ensures higher color fidelity and more natural skin tones, iESP autofocus that can respond to virtually any shooting situation, and noise reduction that eliminates noise when shooting at night. What's more, our exclusive TruePic image processing technology allows the full 4-megapixel range of image data to be used even when shooting at smaller image sizes or when reducing image size after a picture has been taken.
* iESP: Intelligent Electro Selective Pattern
The body features the acclaimed design used on many of our best-selling CAMEDIA cameras. It fits comfortably in your hand the moment you pick it up, and provides a secure grip that helps reduce blurring caused by camera shake. The body design allows film camera users to shoot comfortably, with controls positioned for easy adjustment of all settings.
Histogram Display During and After Shooting -- a CAMEDIA First
Like the top-of-the-line CAMEDIA E-20 digital SLR, the CAMEDIA C-4100ZOOM can display histograms that graphically represent the relationship between light reflected from the subject and current exposure settings. And for the first time on a CAMEDIA camera, they can be displayed not only after a shot has been taken, but also while shooting. By allowing exposure data to be visually confirmed and on the built-in LCD monitor, it is possible to exercise more precise exposure control and accurately reproduce the photographer's exposure intent.
Super Macro Mode for Close-Up Shooting at a Distance of Only 2cm
Super Macro mode allows photographers to shoot from a distance of only 2cm, and while taking advantage of the shallow depth of field, to fill the frame with a subject that measures only 38 x 28mm.
4 'My Mode' Settings
The number of user-customizable 'My Mode' settings has been increased from one to four. By registering their favorite combinations of settings in the camera's memory, users can instantly recall them at any time. In addition to allowing settings for a particular type of shooting situation to be stored, it also allows different family members to each store their own favorite combination of settings.
Versatile Preset White Balance Settings
In addition to preset white balance settings for Daylight, Overcast and Tungsten Light, there are now three settings for Fluorescent Light (Daylight, White Daylight, and White) that ensure accurate color balance by more closely matching the color temperature of the type of fluorescent light in use.
Convenient Mode Dial and Virtual Dial
A large mode dial on the top of the camera makes it easy for users to choose between Program Auto, Aperture-Priority AE, Shutter-Speed-Priority AE, and Manual mode settings. In addition, the CAMEDIA C-4100ZOOM is equipped with the same Virtual Dial system featured on the CAMEDIA C-300ZOOM. Thanks to this system, which eliminates the need for additional buttons by displaying a convenient 'virtual dial' on the built-in LCD monitor, users can quickly and easily make Scene Program Mode and Motion-JPEG Mode selections.
6 Scene Program Modes
The Virtual Dial provides instant access to six Scene Program Modes: Portrait, Sports, Landscape, Landscape-portrait, Night Scene, and Self-Portrait. Users simply choose the mode that matches the scene they wish to shoot; the camera automatically applies the appropriate exposure program, contrast, sharpness, and color reproduction settings. As a result, even first-time users can obtain outstanding image quality.
Focus Area Selection
For greater convenience and focusing accuracy when the camera is mounted on a tripod, users can switch to Spot mode and use the arrow keys on the back of the camera to move the autofocus target area two steps up, down, left or right from the center of the frame.
Shutter Speeds Up to 1/1000 Sec.
For fast-moving subjects, the CAMEDIA C-4100ZOOM takes the 1/800 sec. maximum shutter speed of the CAMEDIA C-3100ZOOM one step further, offering a maximum speed of 1/1000 sec.
External Flash Unit Support.
A 5-pin socket allows the FL-40 CAMEDIA external flash unit (MSRP: ¥50,000) to be attached to the camera via the FL-BK01 flash bracket (MSRP: ¥6,000) and FL-CB01 flash cable (MSRP: ¥5,000). As a result, users can take advantage of a wide range of advanced flash shooting capabilities.
Other Features
Accepts AA Alkaline Batteries
Because the CAMEDIA C-4100ZOOM can be operated using readily available AA alkaline batteries, users never have to worry about battery availability when traveling. Power consumption is also exceptionally low: when using the included AA alkaline batteries under continuous operating conditions, approximately 2,500 pictures can be taken; when using them under normal operating conditions, approximately 150 pictures can be taken. If CR-V3 (LB-01) lithium batteries are used, approximately 6,000 pictures can be taken under continuous operating conditions and approximately 400 pictures can be taken under normal conditions.*

*  Test conditions for continuous operation: SQ mode, LCD monitor off, flash off, no zoom activation, no image display or file downloading. Test conditions for normal operation: repeated 2-shot shutter release followed by 10 minutes of rest, one zoom round-trip per shot, HQ mode, LCD monitor on when shooting, flash used on 50% of shots, no image display or file downloading.

1.5 Frame/Sec. Sequential Shooting
Sequential mode offers frame advance speeds of up to 1.5 frames per second in HQ (2288 x 1712) mode.
All-in-One Packaging
Everything needed for viewing, downloading and editing images is included with the camera, so even first-time users can start using the camera right away. (Includes PC connection cable, video cable and CAMEDIA Master 4.0 image editing software.)
Conversion Lenses
By attaching an optional CLA-1 lens adapter (MSRP: ¥2,000) to the camera, photographers can extend the camera's shooting capabilities with the optional MCON-40 macro conversion lens (MSRP: ¥11,000), WCON-08 wide-angle conversion lens (MSRP: ¥17,000), or TCON-14 telephoto conversion lens (MSRP: ¥10,000).
Dust & Water Protector
An optional PT-010 dust and water protector (MSRP: ¥23,000) can be used for worry-free shooting at the ocean or in the mountains, or in outdoor business environments. The protector is waterproof to a depth of 30m and can even be used for underwater shooting.
